The Mbirikani Health Initiative was conceived and implemented in 2002 by Chicago philanthropist Ann Lurie. Starting with a trailer outfitted with a laboratory, examination room and toilet facilities, the staff traveled the rough dirt roads of Mbirikani Group Ranch and environs for a year and a half.

Gradually, we established the trust of the residents while providing skilled diagnosis and treatment of a myriad of illnesses. In January of 2004, we established a fixed-base compound and AID Village Clinics was born.
